Joy

I made this layout for my local scrapbook store a few weeks ago. It didn't take much time, probably about 30 minutes. I debated over adding more "stuff" but I've been told that sometimes less is more when it's for a store display, so I went with that theory and left it fairly simple.
Fast forward to yesterday when I was back at my local store. I noticed a lady standing looking at my layout and sketching the design. As I approached her she said "I hope it's ok if I copy this?" I assured it was fine and that was why there were samples, for the inspiration.  After chatting with her for a few minutes, she told me it was her 3rd trip back to the store, just to look at this layout. I kind of laughed when she said it and told her "oh that, it was so easy to make, it didn't take any time at all." She looked at me with that deer-in-the-headlights look. After chatting a bit more, I find out that she has been scrapbooking for all of 2 weeks, that on a whim, on January 15, she bought a few patterned papers, and for the past 2 weeks has been trying to figure out what to do with what she bought. She hadn't ever been in a scrapbook store before that day, and since then all she has wanted to do was play with paper and glue. I told her I had been scrapbooking for a long, long time, but all I want to do is play with paper and glue too!  Long story short (ha ha!) I showed her how I matted the photos, told her that the little red sparkly things that she loved are sequins just like she probably used on an art project as a kid, showed her how to use a paper trimmer and paper punch for the first time, explained all about this magical die-cutting machine we all know as a Silhouette, and that yes, I really did sew with a sewing machine just to give it a little bit of texture.

After she left the store, I was thinking about how excited she was and how happy she was to know that there really were "no rules" in scrapbooking. A little part of me was excited too, excited that something I made caught her eye and made her want to give it a try. Some days it's the little things that put a smile on your face and make your day. Today was one of them.

Authentique | Remember This

Here's another photo from Gracie's field trip to the farm. You can tell by the look on her face she wasn't quite sure about holding the baby chick ;)
I used a mix of Suave and Flourish, two of the brand new collections from Authentique.  My local store, Scrapbook Daisies ordered all of Authentique's new collections so I'm one step ahead and already have a sample layout made before these yummy papers even arrive at the store!
I did some machine stitching around the outside border and even stitched on a sweet little row of sequins. You know I gotta add a bit of sparkle on there somewhere!
Supplies - papers: Authentique, sequins, Silhouette cut file

Christmas Cheer|Jillibean Soup

A quick and simple layout for Scrapbook Daisies (my local scrapbook store) using the "Christmas Cheer Chowder" collection from Jillibean Soup.
I love the teal & pink added in with the traditional red and green colors and the whimsical look of Santa and his reindeer. A tiny red rhinestone and instantly he became Rudolph ;)

Supplies: paper, stickers, placemats - Jillibean Soup, Twine: Divine Twine, rhinestone.

at the Farm

I went with Gracie's class on a field trip a few weeks ago to a local farm. There aren't many farms in the city (this one was actually at the fairgrounds) so it was quite fun watching the kids up close and personal with the animals.
I love this pic of Gracie having a chat with a cow. Oh she had the best time!

I added lots of bits and pieces and fun layers too!

As always, thanks for stopping by!
