Stocking # 2

This week was Tucker's 2nd grade class Christmas play. Lots of fun of course, but remember that old movie, "The Year Without a Santa Claus?" Well it really almost was the Year without a Santa Claus. You see, sometimes when older brothers are kinda busy (studying for a test) and little brothers have hundreds of questions about Santa, sometimes the older brother can say something that isn't quite right. Needless to say, Austin was studying for a test for school. Tucker, being the chatterbox he is, asked Austin an array of questions about Santa.
Long story short, Tucker's teacher came to Clayton at school (Clayton works there too!) and said "we have a problem, Tucker doesn't want to be Santa anymore".
WHAT??? The part in the play that he was so excited he was chosen for, the part he had learned the lines for. WHAT??? Nope
Apparently after the afore mentioned conversation with big brother about Santa, Tucker decided there really wasn't a Santa, and he was not going to be something that wasn't real.
So, the 2nd grade Christmas Pageant went off without a hitch after all. Took dozens of pictures. Mostly of my darling "Stocking #2". Yep, that was his part, Stocking #2. But, he really was the cutest Stocking # 2 you've ever seen.

I've been busy!

And here's the proof.
11 1/4 " of layouts that need to be put into albums.
Sheer joy to look at that stack though.
I'm starting my New Year's Resolution 2 weeks early.
Get all these layouts into their appropriate albums.

Now it feels like Christmas!

Saturday night we made our way over to the "Portraits of the Prince of Peace" in Long Beach. Growing up in this little area of So CA, I think everyone I knew went to this walk thru Christmas story when we were kids. I'm keeping the tradition alive, and still going with my family. It's one of Tucker's favorite things to do at Christmas, and both of the older boys loved going when they were his age.
7 churches in Long Beach of different faith, all within walking distance, get together each year to tell the Christmas story with people and live animals. You can drive by, looking from your car, but there is nothing like making the trek on foot, and of course it never fails, I seriously think the weekend it is held every year has got to be the coldest in December!!
So we had a great time walking from church to churh and seeing the sheep and goats, watching Mary and Joseph being turned away due to No Room at the Inn, hearing the choirs sing christmas music and drinking the warm hot chocolate.
This has become such a tradition, that now it feels like it's Christmas!

Getting Crafty

So here's what I made for the 1st. birthday party we went to on Sunday. It's to match his room, and it turned out so cute!! I've made a couple of these the past few weeks, and just love them! I'm also teaching this in December at Strictly Scrapbooking (my LSS) using browns, greens and blues. So fun!

I'm back!

So, I haven't been the best at updating this blog the past month or so, but I have gotten a lot of scrapbook pages done :) Once school started it seems like life has been so darn busy. Now the holidays are here, and I really am trying to slow down a bit. Here's a recap of what's been going on...

Tucker was the cutest Ninja you've ever seen for Halloween. Although, as he pointed out, Ninja's aren't supposed to be cute. We visited the neighbor's houses and then headed off to the park for their carnival. Had a great time there with our friends.

Celebrated an anniversary with the most wonderful man on earth. He still amazes me with his love, patience and understanding. I'm so blessed.

Spent Thanksgiving here at home. We had a fun day watching the parade and just being together.

Took Tucker to a Boy Scout meeting this week. (after they sent home a flyer from school) He really wants to be a Cub Scout. I'm still trying to find the right "pack" for him though. The one through his school only has 9 boys in it, and none of the boys are in 2nd grade. Since you do things as a "den" by grade, he would be the only one in a "den". All the den's make up "pack". So I think were doing the Boy Scout thing, I just need to figure out through what group.

I mentioned scrapbooking, and yes, I've gotten so many pages done recently. This makes me a happy camper. I love to look over at the pile on my table and see all those completed pages ready to go in their albums. Scrapbooking is the one thing besides my family, that I really try to make time for. I love to look at the photos as I am working on the pages, but I think my favorite part is that I am recording my family's stories and history. I'm so grateful I was introduced to this hobby over 20 years ago (yep 21 to be exact!)

Work is still work, but at least it's a part of soemthing I love. What better place for a scrapbooker to work than in a scrapbook store. I get to share my hobby with others, and I love my job for that.

We're off to a 1st birthday party today. I made something really cute for the birthday boy. I'll share pictures later...I have a ton of pictues to download, so that will have to wait.
Thanks for all your e-mails. I'm still here, just been busy, but I'll try to do better keeping this 'ol blog updated.
Have a wonderfuly day!!

Wishing you and those you love,
a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Halloween is Here!

Halloween has come to our house, and invited a cat. I put our decorations out a few weeks ago, you know, pumpkins on the porch and cute signs in the garden. Since then, "cat" has been sitting on the bench next to this jack-o-lantern. I don't really like cats. I'm more of a dog person.
Anyway, I think "cat" has found a new home.
(you don't think it's the water in the tiny bowl I put out for her do you? or maybe it's the apple jacks and random pieces of hot dogs I've left for her.)

Dolphins at Daybreak

No, I wasn't out at the beach early today. Dolphins at Daybreak is the book Tucker read and had to do a book report on. Instructions were sent home from his teacher. Pretty basic...Draw pictures of what the book was about. He thought it would be a great time to use mom's scrapbook supplies, and I of course agreed!! Monday he will be taking his book report back to school with a little bit of cardstock, stickles glitter (to make the ocean) and even some real sea shells added. His own little mini scrapbook about Dolphins at Daybreak.
I'm loving 2nd grade all over again.

October 13, 2007

It's 6:05 am on a Saturday morning. That's when you can tell your behind, when your'e up at 6:05 on a Saturday!!!
Love this time of the morning though. Boys are asleep, Clayton is already at work (wishing he was here) and raindrops are hitting the window. Peace and quiet.
Got a busy weekend ahead of me, but for now enjoying a cup of hot chocolate and raindrops.

Finally a Grey Thursday

I've been waiting for tonight since forever it seems. I swore I would not watch Grey's Anatomy, and swore even more that I wouldn't like it. So with that thrown out the window, I have officially started the count down to 9:00.
I haven't been this excited about a season opener since the last season of FRIENDS. LOL
I'm still playing everything from last season in my head, trying to come up with my own ideas of what's going to happen.
Are Mer and Der really through??
How about the Cheif and Adelle??
What about the whole George/Callie/George/Izzy thing?
And is Lexi (Mer's sis) here for good??
Guess we'll have to wait another hour and 4 minutes to find out.

Bad Blogger Award

OK, I know I'm up for the Bad Blogger Award since it's been FOREVER since my last post, but I went from a week of vacation, to Creative Escape, to Memory Trends, all within 3 weeks. And dang I tired!! Funny how so many fun relaxing things can make you tired.

I still haven't posted pictures from our California Coast Vacation, but I still have plans to do that. I did post pics about Creative Escape, and that was totally awesome. Now I'm up to the trip to Vegas for Memory Trends.
Left for Memory Trends last Sunday night, and came home early (very early, as in 3 in the morning early) on Friday. So this weekend has been spent catching up on the boys, sleep, and e-mails. It's so hard to be gone from the family, but I love to hear how much I was missed. Such sweet guys!
I'm not a gambler, but I did play the slot machines with the $20 I had set aside for Vegas. Came back with $17 of that $20 so I'm a happy girl. You sure can play a long time on penny slots :)
I took ALOT of pics at Memory Trends, but I havn't even downloaded them yet. Maybe when I get caught up on life, I'll post pics of that too!
Thanks for hanging with me, and for all that have e-mailed and said they missed me, yep, I missed you all too!

Back from the Escape

I got home late Sunday night from the Squaw Peak Hilton in Phoenix, Arizona. Refreshed, relaxed and ready to scrap!! Can I just go on record as saying that Creative Escape was amazing!! I loved every minute of it!
The fun started at check-in on Thursday with a really cute pink Creative Escape tote bag, that had our "project portfolio and inspiration guide to Creative Escape". A 123 page book that has full instructions and photos of all the projects. Great idea book!
The Technique Boutique was our first stop to learn a few of the techniques we needed to know for classes. Lots of goodies handed out here! Then it was next door for the Trunk Show where all the teachers had samples of their work on display. What a talented group of women! Beautiful pieces of artwork, journals, an awesome chandelier that had photos hanging from it, the displays were beautiful! That had me so excited to start classes the next morning!
There was a short welcome Thursday evening where they posted these statistics for for putting together the class kits for Creative Escape:
50,000 kits
75,000 sheets of paper
25,000 yards of ribbon
81,000 buttons and brads
92,000 die cuts
23,000 flowers
12,000 signature buttons (event buttons)
16,000 playing cards
That is some work!!
I had 4 classes on Friday and 3 on Saturday I loved them all!!!!! On a personal note...Becky Higgins was in my class group. As so many of you know, I just love Becky Higgins and Rebecca Sower, so it was just so cool that Becky was in my classes. I never said anything to her since I know she was there to enjoy herself, and just be a "regular scrapper", but I just loved knowing she was in the room!! So silly huh! Maybe some of her creativity rubbed off on me. Ya right, from across the room. LOL
In Rhonna Farrer's class she taught her signature "21 Day Journal". I can't wait to start this.
Chris Randall's class was one of my fave's. Soldering!! Made the cutest photo charm. I think soldering is my new favorite hobby (well, besides scrapbooking!!)
Heidi Lynn Schreibers class was a fun 5 page layout class, with the layouts to be used in a calendar.
In Lesli Spaffords class, we made some really creative cards. So cute!
Traci Niehues taught us how to make a fun little file folder/mini album using K & Co. papers.
Jennifer Wagner's class was a darling chipboard mini album that fits into a chipboard purse. We did some stitching in this class. Loved this too!
Heidi Swapp taught us a fun technique for canvas. I've used her masks before, but never thought to use one on a canvas. She is such a sweet and down to earth girl. Dang why can't she be my next door neighbor!
All the classes were such a fun time. During the classes, the RAK girls would come around to each class hootin' and hollerin' giving out Randome Acts of Kindness.
I still can't believe all the "stuff" I brought home!!! Seriously!! I am so glad I took the advice to bring an extra suitcase. It was full to the top with all my class projects, give-aways and Sweet Dreams. Sweet Dreams were little goodies you could pick up at the info desk every night before going to your hotel room... like packs of papers or epoxy stickers.
All the added touches like the special Creative Escape hotel key, the pink popcorn and night mask left in our hotel room, the so so cute pink and green lanyards, the fun event buttons/pins etc.
Oh and the food! WOW!! So yummy! Saturday night was the best...we got to eat dessert first!
Saturday night after dinner Allison Tyler Jones was the keynote speaker. I wish I had a tape of her presentation. She is so motivational, so funny so real!
Overall, I think this was one of the best times I've had as a scrapbooker. So well planned, so well thought out. A truly amazing time. I can't wait for Creative Escape '08.

September 4, 2007

Off to Arizona

Heading out to Phoenix, Arizona tomorrow for Creative Escape.
This will be the first scrapbooking "event" in about 5 years that I will get to sit and enjoy, and not be working or teaching a class. So dang excited about this!!
I just can't wait. I have everything packed, you know, all the important stuff, like adhesive, paper trimmer, scissors. etc. Oh and clothes.
I know it's going to be a tad hot. Who am I kidding?? It's going to be hot as all heck!! I even threw in the bathing suit for the half-mile Lazy River for tubing, and the 130ft slide known as Slippery Rock Slide that are at the resort.

I'll check in on Sunday and have pictures of Creative Escape as well as more vacation pics.

Home Again

600 pictures later, we're back home from our vacation!
We had such a great time up and down the California coast. From Legoland in Carlsbad, to the Santa Barbara Zoo and beyond. We found some really FUN places that we had never been before, ate at some really nice restaurants, (ate outside in a sidewalk cafe or on a veranda at least 1 meal every day! sooo fun!) and even went to one scrapbook store! I'll tell you all the details, and share more pictures in another post, because now that I am back home, I have to start packing again to leave on Wednesday! I'll be in AZ for 5 days for Creative Escape, a scrapbooking retreat. So excited for this!
Hope you had a nice Labor Day, I'll be back next week!

More fun to come!

We're leaving early tomorrow morning to spend the next few days in Solvang, and then head further North. Solvang is such a fun little town to visit. Totally brings back memories from my childhood. By this time tomorrow night, I will have had Ableskiver for breakfast, spent the day shopping and relaxing in the pool. Oh I just can't wait!
See ya Monday!

Vacation, Day 2

Here's where were headed today. Tucker has wanted to go to the La Brea Tar Pits for the last few years, after watching a program on the Discovery Channel. He was 2 the last time we were there, and doesn't remember the trip, so he is beyond excited about today! He is so into dinosaurs, fossils and the ice age.
We had a great day at Legoland yesterday! Took lots of pics, but I think I'll just upload pictures at the end of the week, and do a Vacation Re-Cap.

August 28, 2007

This is Where I'll be Today!!

Today starts the first day of our vacation, and off to LEGOLAND we go!
Have a great day, I know I sure will!

Along the Way

One of the best things about working in the Scrapbooking Industry is the people you meet along the way. Besides the co-workers that become like family, there is also the customers that become friends.
One of those customers/friends stopped by the LSS (local scrapbook store)this week while I was working and said she had something for me. She handed me the package to open, and inside was the most beautiful quilt I had ever seen.
Amazing story right?
No, the amazing part is that her husband hand made the quilt for me.
She helps him pick out the colors, and put them all together, and he does the quilting while she's scrapbooking.
I have the quilt laying over the sofa in our family room, and everytime I walk into the room, I still can't help but to stop and look at it. It's beautiful!
I know the quilt took him months to make, and that just blows me away that someone would do that for me.
I've tried 3 times today to make a Thank You card for them, but just can't make it perfect like I want. Thank you just doesn't seem like enough anyway.
I really have met some wonderful people along the way.

The sweetness of a six year old

I did this layout quite sometime ago and had it hanging at the LSS where I work. But, all good things must come to an end, and today I took the layout down, to make room for a new one. Gotta have new layouts to go with the new products you know!
I brought the layout home with me tonight and layed it on the island in my scrapbook room. A few minutes later Tucker walked in and saw it laying there. As he kept walking through the room, with out missing a beat, he looked at me and said,
"Mom, what would you have done if I had been born ugly? You wouldn't be able to scrapbook if I was ugly".
I laughed to myself, and knew I would save this for a later conversation.
Tonight at bedtime, I explained to him that he was the cutest 6 year old I knew, but that even if he had been born with only 1 hand, or didn't have legs, he would still be the cutest 6 year old I knew, and that no matter what, Mama's always love their babies.
As I turned out his light, and was leaving his room, this is what I heard.
"Cow (he sleeps with Cow EVERY NIGHT) no matter what, even if your stuffing comes out or if your tail comes off, I'll always love you 'cuz papa's always love their babies".
Ah the sweetness of a 6 year old.

Friday Night at the Fair

Went out to the Orange County Fair Friday night, and what fun we had! I've always loved the OC fair, it's not quite as big and crazy as the LA County fair. More of a small hometown feel to it.
Of course you have to eat while you are there, that's one of the best things about the fair, is all the amazing food you can find. We saw Fried Coke, Deep Fried Avocados, Cheesecake on a stick, Fried Oreos & Twinkies and Turkey legs that must have really come from an ostrich, they were huge!! We settled on footlong hotdogs, and ended up being too full for dessert.
We found our way over the the animal barns, love seeing the sheep and cows, walked through the exhibit halls and if Tucker would have had his way, we would have gone home with all new cookware.
The guys rode a few of the rides, I of course was to chicken, um I mean had to stay off to take pictures.
We had a great time though and hope to visit one more time before the fair closes.

Wednesday List

5 things that make me happy
1. Tucker's first swimming lesson was last night, he loved it!
2. Got some great pics of above mentioned swimming lesson
3. FINALLY got our tax refund check! Why is it when you owe them $ you have to have the $ to them on a certain date, but if they owe you $ it can take forever!!!
4. Played with my new stamps last night that I got at the Rubber Stamp Convention.
5. Tried the new Vanilla Yogurt Cheerios for breakfast today and LOVED them!

July 16, 2007

Monday, Monday, but talking about Sunday, Sunday

Yesterday I went to my very first Rubber Stamp Convention, and can I just say, WOW!! There we so many fun stamps, and so many companies that I had never even heard of. I've been scrapbooking since, well, forever, but the stamping bit is still kinda new to me. There was booth after booth of rubber stamps, clear stamps, unmounted stamps (which is very new for me) stamp pads, handy tools and just so many fun things!! At the very first booth my friend (hi Jessica!) and I stopped at, there was this lady that had a BIG mirror on a lanyard around her neck. We both looked at her and kinda laughed to ourselves. By booth #2, I was wanting to find the lady and her mirror! Little did we know that most of the booths sell unmounted stamps, meaning it's just the rubber part of the stamp, without the wooden block, which also means without the wooden block, there is no picture of what the stamp looks like. So, the lady ended up being the smart one that carried her own mirror, so that she could put the piece of rubber up to the mirror to read what it said. (remember, all stamps are backwards to look at them, but when put to paper, read in the right direction) So, you can bet I too will be wearing a BIG mirror on a lanyard to the next Rubber Stamp Convention I go to!! Spent way too much $, but had a great time. I even got to do a Make 'n Take!! I have worked at so many Scrapbook Shows over the past 5 years, and taught countless Make 'n Takes at the shows, so it was fun to sit on the other side of the table, and be crafty. We both made a really cute tin at the Cut it Up booth (hi Vicky!) using Tim Holtz alcohol inks. Such a cute project! Speaking of Tim Holtz, yep he was there too drawing a crowd as usual. The whole Stampers Anonymous booth was very busy, not just to see Tim, but to look at their fab stamps. Love their stamps!!
Spending the day at the RSC was such a treat, I can't wait 'till November for the next one!

July 13, 2007

Summer of '69

I know, it's really the summer of '07, but here is a layout I did yesterday, with pictures from the summer of '69. I made this for one of the weekly page kits at my LSS (local Scrapbook Store) where I work. This was one of my favortie vacations as a kid. Not quite 6 years old, and off a trek that took us to 18 different states. Good times, good times.

July 11, 2007

It's Wednesday

Wednesday, ahhhh Wednesday....
That means 2 days down, 2 days to go 'till Friday!!

Holiday Bliss

I finally downloaded our pictures from the 4th. I didn't really take many pictures this year believe or not! I was having so much fun, I just didn't take the time to worry about getting the perfect photo. It was nice to sit back and relax and enjoy the evening. There were 12 of us here for BBQ'd hamburgers, hotdogs, the best potato salad ever (courtesy of our neighbor Rebecca) chips & dip and yummy desserts. My mom and dad inlaw were here too, and it was so funny to watch them. They are from Central CA, and pretty much have always lived in what we would call "out in the country", where fireworks have never been allowed. They just can't believe how the whole block comes out and does fireworks, and how many! My hubby had the same reaction when he was here "in the city" for his first 4th of July. I've turned him into a city boy now, so it's not quite so amazing to him. His dad was out in the middle of our street video-ing up and down the block in awe at all the fireworks going on. I had to laugh at how normal this is for me, but is still so new to others. A night of memories for us and them.
I hope you had a wonderful 4th, I sure did.

July 3, 2007

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, so I am really looking forward to tomorrow!! Since moving into this house 2 years ago, we have become friends with so many of the neighbors, and tomorrow we are all getting together at our house (with my inlaws too!) for a bbq and then some firework fun as soon as the sun goes down.
The flag has been hung, fireworks have been bought, food has been prepared, and my camera battery has been charged. I can't wait!!
I hope all of you have a wonderful day with family and friends, and remember how lucky we are to live in this amazing country where we can have a day to celebrate.

June 30, 2007

I was here

So, living here in Southern California, where do you go on a Friday night when it's hot??? Here of course...
To the Tiki Tiki Tiki Room, to the Tiki Tiki Tiki Room
sing it with me friends!
Yep, Disneyland was PACKED, but the Tiki Room is never crowded, and of course nice and cool inside.
We ate dinner at Pizza Port, and sat through 2 showings of the birds and flowers singing. That is how a local enjoys Disneyland in the summer.

Ahhhh yes, the lazy days of summer are here!

Good Bye First Grade

I can't belive tomorrow is my baby's last day of First Grade. What an exciting year this has been for him! I still can't believe how fast he's growing up. Here's some pics of his school year. I wish I could make time stand still with each picture I take.
